Do I have to take a drug test the same day? After the hiring session what’s the next step in the hiring process?

Hi there, I just happened to be browsing through some of the opened questions and saw yours. Sorry it has taken so long for someone to respond. I have never been to a UP hiring session, but I have been to the BNSF and NS hiring sessions. They both were pretty much the same, so I would assume the UP’s is the same as well. First you will be in a class room setting with other candidates and the job being applied for will be explained in great detail. After that, you will have to take some sort of apptitude test. You then will have your one on one interviews. After that you will be given a drug test, and most likely it will be a hair follicle test. They test up to the last 3-6 months I believe. If you cannot pass the drug test, wait to apply until you know you can pass. If you flunk it, you will never be given another chance. After all of the interviews and tests are completed, you will have to wait for them to contact you which could take a week or 6 months. Hopefully this helps.

How is Obama suppose to create jobs and stop illegals if Americans keep hiring them and our jobs still keep going to China? Or should we do what the market wants and may us take lower wages to compete?

Who hires who and who ships jobs abroad has nothing to do with age. It does have to do with political party, though. The right wing Supreme Court has three times ruled to empower corporations to interfere with our government, the latest being the recent Citizens United. Once again, the cure is an amendment to the Constitution declaring that a "person" is a living human being, not a corporation.

Congress could return our jobs to the US merely by raising tariffs. We should lean on them heavily to do so.

I’ve recently noticed tiny black jumping insects in my home that I think are fleas, but I don’t have any pets. I was wondering if there was some way to kill them myself w/out hiring an expensive and time consuming fumigation service. Any suggestions?

Most stores like WalMart or PetSmart will sell fume canisters. They are small, about the size of an 8oz coke can, and cost a few dollars - maybe $10 for a pack of 4.

You clear out the house, set the canisters in each of the rooms, and then turn each of them on (You press down and it starts to shoot a bunch of stuff in the air and locks in place) from the back of your house to the front, and then leave the house for an hour or two while it does its thing. Make sure to shut your windows to the fume can kill the fleas.

You should also wash all of your clothes after wards, clean your dishes, vacuum, etc.

I had a place that was infected with fleas from my roommate’s cat, and we loaded up the place with fume canisters, washed all of our clothes, and never had any other issues.

Oh! We also used this flea killer powder. We used it at the same time as the fume canisters. You sprinkle it all over the carpet, let it sit a while, and then vacuum it up.

I’m a student myself, an American citizen. I have a small programming company that contracts with my university. Its a sole proprietorship, and I only plan on hiring contract labor to have others do some work. What regulations do I have to follow to hire an international student as a contractor?

What’s the chance of hiring a high qualified professional if he/she does currently live in Brazil? But was born in Brazil, speaks english fluently and wants to relocate… Would you hire someone by only analizing their resume and doing a phone interview?

No

Unless you have some body of work, unique in its own way, you aren’t getting hired based on your resume. "highly qualified professional" is a broad category. Unless you have for instance, a body of published scientific papers, I don’t see it happening.

What the large company policies on hiring in Northern Ireland? Do they have to hire and equal number of protestant and catholic’s? Are there any legislation regarding this? I am doing this for a college assignment; I would be very grateful for you help.
